Interview Communication Checklist

A practical checklist for placement-bound students.

Before the interview

Understand the role and organisation. Prepare a clear introduction. Practise explaining projects, internships and technical decisions aloud. Prepare examples rather than memorised scripts. Identify the communication skill you most want to improve.

During the interview

Listen to the full question. Take a moment to organise the answer. Explain rather than recite. Use simple, clear language. Keep unnecessary filler words under control. If a question is unclear, ask for clarification. Treat follow-up questions as part of the conversation.

After the interview

Write down questions that were difficult to answer. Separate knowledge gaps from communication gaps. Practise explaining the difficult areas again while the experience is fresh.

Six-skill self-check

Was I easy to understand? Were my sentences clear? Did my answer flow naturally? Did I sound composed? Did fillers interrupt my answer? Did I choose words that made the idea clearer?
